Applying for a Scholarship

Eligible Maryland 4-H students wishing to apply for a Maryland 4-H Foundation scholarship may obtain further information and a Maryland 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application from their local county extension or the Maryland 4-H Office. Each applicant may only receive one (1) scholarship per year for two (2) years before becoming ineligible to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

Be a currently enrolled 4-H member in good standing who has completed at least two (2) years of 4-H work in Maryland.
Is a Maryland 4-H Alumni(ae) having been enrolled in Maryland 4-H for a minimum of two (2) years prior to graduating from 4-H.

Application Requirements

Candidates submitting a Maryland 4-H Foundation Scholarship Award Application must be planning to enroll in an accredited college, university or post high school program in the fall of 2017.

Scholarship award applications must be submitted online and are to be time stamped by midnight of June 1st. The Scholarship Award Application must be typed and signed by the candidate.

Candidates must provide documentation as to:

  • High School scholastic records/unoffical transript from post-high school institution.
  • Essay - Impact of 4-H on Career Choice
  • Leadership, 4-H Involvement, and Citizenship in space provided
  • A letter of recommendation from someone involved in your 4-H career (ex. Club Leader, 4-H Educator, etc.)
  • Special Criteria for selected Scholarships

Selection Process

Upon receipt of all completed applications, a committee composed of the Maryland 4-H Foundation Board of Directors will review all applications and select qualified recipients and alternates. All committee decisions are final. Winners will be notified by October 1. Applications missing required information will NOT be reviewed.

Award Process

Academic Scholarship Award winners will receive their scholarship payment in full, made payable to the institution, at the Maryland 4-H Gala, Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, MD. Individual recipient or family representative must attend (special exceptions allowed). scholarship winners must provide the Foundation with a signed acceptance form and copy of their donor thank you note prior to receiving an award check.
